Tonight's picture was taken in June of 2008. Mattie was six years old and in a canoe with Peter on the Potomac River. This was a typical weekend occurrence for them in the spring. I think it is hard to believe that a month later, Mattie was diagnosed with cancer. Doesn't he look like the picture of health?

Quote of the day: Today's coronavirus update from Johns Hopkins.

  • Number of people diagnosed with the virus: 33,256,937
  • Number of people who died from the virus: 594,414

Look who was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs today? Sunny keeps a close bead on me, and wanted to make sure he got his long walk in before we humans move on to whatever other plans we had for the day.

We drove to Rockport, MA to have lunch at the Lobster Pool. It was another raw, damp, and rainy day. Thank goodness, I brought my jackets and coat. Because I need all of these things especially to walk Sunny.
Given it was a cold day, a lobster grilled cheese somehow sounded like the right thing!

My view from inside.

A beautiful setting, and I can see why people flock to Rockport, especially in the summer months.

When we got back to the house, a friend and her 10 year old daughter, Yael, came over to visit. They brought homemade bread and in the process, I got to know Yael. Yael played the piano for us, she played with Sunny, and we had a lovely conversation. She is an only child, and there are aspects of her that reminded me of me. She connected with me, and of course I couldn't help but imagine what it would have been like if Mattie were still alive.
