Thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive!

Dear Mattie Blog Readers,

It means a great deal to us that you take the time to write to us and to share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections on Mattie's battle and death. Your messages are very meaningful to us and help support us through very challenging times. To you we are forever grateful. As my readers know, I promised to write the blog for a year after Mattie's death, which would mean that I could technically stop writing on September 9, 2010. However, at the moment, I feel like our journey with grief still needs to be processed and fortunately I have a willing support network still committed to reading. Therefore, the blog continues on. If I should find the need to stop writing, I assure you I will give you advanced notice. In the mean time, thank you for reading, thank you for having the courage to share this journey with us, and most importantly thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive.

As Mattie would say, Ooga Booga (meaning, I LOVE YOU)! Vicki and Peter

Before Mattie was discharged on December 24, 2008, to spend Christmas at home, he was visited by his best friend from preschool, Zachary, and two marines. These marines were visiting the hospital and providing toys to the children.

Quote of the day: It isn't that life ashore is distasteful to me. But life at sea is better.Sir Francis Drake

Today is a break from tours as it is a day at sea. Peter went for his fourth massage on the ship this morning. Typically this is something Peter doesn't do, but given the multiple stresses he has been balancing, this type of de-stressor is very needed. He did some sort of seaweed massage today that he was raving about!

Just as a recap, we boarded the ship on December 20. The ports we have visited so far are: 1) St. Thomas, 2) Antigua, 3) St. Kitts, 4) Barbados, 5) Martinique, and 6) Trinidad.

Peter captured the night sky as we were sailing away from Trinidad yesterday.
This morning, the sun was up and the seas are calm. Which is greatly appreciated! We are headed to Curacao.
This is the first time we have ever had cabins on the 15th floor. The same floor as the ship's buffet and pools are located. This is our view from our balcony.

At 10am, my mom and I went to the ship's $10 sale held in one of the ship's dining rooms. There was a line assembling outside the dining room, where the sale was going to take place. Honestly you would think they were giving away some of the items, given the frenzy on the line. One of the items they have been pushing are Christmas ornaments for dogs. I have no problem with that, except the items have dog names on it. Which is great if you have a dog named Luna or Otis. But if you don't, I have NO IDEA why one would buy such a gift.

After the sale, we saw many of the sous chefs in the ship's galley create food art right before our eyes. These men are very talented and I would have to say that this performance is a very popular one to attend. People were lined up throughout the ship's piazza!

Obviously the men wearing the hats are the sous chefs and the man with the microphone is the ship's cruise director.
Check out these wonderful creations! This one was made out of oranges, a cantaloupe, blueberries and radishes.
I love these birds..... who knew oranges could look this fantastic!
An American Eagle...... I love the use of an eggplant!
An eagle carved in a watermelon.
A pirate carved within a watermelon.
How about these two love birds? Summer squash and pineapple combined produced this cutie!
A fish carved into a watermelon.

We had lunch in the Coral dining room today. Since it is a sea day, the restaurants and shops are open on the ship.

After lunch retreated to the ship's Sanctuary. It is an all adult venue and it costs an additional $30 a day to reserve this seat. However, if you don't secure such a seat, then I can assure you, it will be impossible to ever sit outside.
Yet today while sitting out here, I can hear the loud noise coming from the pool area. As they have football games playing on a big screen, a DJ, and the list goes on. Honestly when Princess Cruises talks about "escaping completely" on this ships they truly have to be kidding.
