Thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive!

Dear Mattie Blog Readers,

It means a great deal to us that you take the time to write to us and to share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections on Mattie's battle and death. Your messages are very meaningful to us and help support us through very challenging times. To you we are forever grateful. As my readers know, I promised to write the blog for a year after Mattie's death, which would mean that I could technically stop writing on September 9, 2010. However, at the moment, I feel like our journey with grief still needs to be processed and fortunately I have a willing support network still committed to reading. Therefore, the blog continues on. If I should find the need to stop writing, I assure you I will give you advanced notice. In the mean time, thank you for reading, thank you for having the courage to share this journey with us, and most importantly thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive.

As Mattie would say, Ooga Booga (meaning, I LOVE YOU)! Vicki and Peter

Tonight's picture was taken in March of 2009. We were in the middle of the pediatric unit hallway and getting Mattie to do his physical therapy exercises. Mattie traveled with an entourage of friends. In this photo was Kathleen (his nurse), Mary (a child life volunteer), Meg (a child life intern), Linda (Mattie's child life specialist), and Brandon (Mattie's best buddy in cancer). What you can't possibly know was that Dancing Queen was playing and everyone on the floor could hear it. In fact, many of the admin on the floor got to know Mattie because he always had music playing and was doing some sort of activity in the hallway.

Do you see Indie? She sitting in a small cat tree by the window. This is her old cat perch from DC, a very familiar spot! Indie loves being be the window and checking birds that fly by. She is most definitely a birder!

This cute kitty was a nightmare last night. It was her first night at the house and she was ON the entire night. Very vocal, screaming, crying out, and moaning. When she wasn't doing that, she was jumping all over us in bed. Neither of us got any sleep last night.

It was another full day! There is so much to unpack and organize that I literally feel like a chicken without a head. I flit from one room to the next, trying to accomplish something, but never really finish anything.

Sunny has been so good, that I felt he deserved a long walk this morning. He loved it! I notice if I take him for a walk, he is happy to entertain himself for the rest of the afternoon.

The neighborhood is surrounded by trees and woods. A night and day difference from living in DC. Sunny absolutely loves exploring and looking for critters.

This deer did not disappoint. He was literally walking across a neighbor's front lawn. Luckily Sunny was leashed, otherwise, this deer would have gotten a work out!

I spent the day going through boxes and re-organizing. What Peter constantly reminds me is that I did an excellent job packing our closets in the townhouse. I literally filled every nook and cranny and now that we have more space, I can actually understand the volume of things we own.

Peter made another run to the townhouse and is slowing cleaning out the kitchen there. I couldn't get over the volume he brought back for me to process today. It literally took me the whole day and unfortunately there is still more to pack up in DC. Frankly it is overwhelming and we are both extremely tired of working around the clock.
