A Remembrance Video of Mattie

Thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive!

Dear Mattie Blog Readers,

It means a great deal to me that you take the time to write and to share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections on Mattie's battle and death. Your messages are very meaningful and help support me through very challenging times. I am forever grateful. As my readers know, I promised to write the blog for a year after Mattie's death, which would mean that I could technically have stopped writing on September 9, 2010. However, like my journey with grief there is so much that still needs to be processed and fortunately I have a willing support network still committed to reading. Therefore, the blog continues on. If I should find the need to stop writing, I assure you I will give you advanced notice. In the mean time, thank you for reading, thank you for having the courage to share this journey with me, and most importantly thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive.

As Mattie would say, Ooga Booga (meaning, I LOVE YOU)! Vicki

Tonight's picture was taken in May of 2009 at the Mattie March. Pictured next to Mattie is Zachary. Mattie and Zachary were absolutely inseparable during preschool. They were the best of friends. They could spend a whole school day together, just to want to have a play date after school. There was instant chemistry between them. That did not change even when Mattie was undergoing cancer treatment. Zachary visited Mattie in the hospital as well as when he was home between chemos. I love this photo because to me this is what true friends look like.

I am telling you today was an absolute BLUR!!! NON-STOP work. It is 9:30pm, and I am still at it. But if I wasn't seeing progress on the Walk front, I would be truly dejected. As of now, we have raised 81% of our goal, $65,000 and we have 220 people pre-registered! An all time high. I am hoping even more people show up on the day of the walk!

Peter and I had dinner on our deck tonight, which was very needed. As we both sat down, I stopped in my tracks because I saw our gardenia's first bloom! I love gardenias, so this was very exciting and I took it as a sign.
Sunny was NOT happy with my work schedule today. He truly looked depressed. Sunny also refuses to come outside on the deck. So we have concluded he was tied up outside by his former owners and he didn't like it. While Sunny hates deck time, Indie LOVES it. While Indie was out and rolling around on the deck, we found this. A leaf in the shape of a heart! Amazing no? A true Mattie sign, and I am taking all of them that I can find this week.

True friendship is one of those ultimate gifts of life. It is rare to have one person that just is the true definition of friend! It is hard to be a good friend when someone is sick. There are so many emotions tied to illness, that many people don't know what to do, so they do nothing. Zachary sounds like he was one of those amazing little kids who saw Mattie as his good friend and that was enough to take care of the rest. I am glad Mattie knew the loyalty of a friend like that
