Thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive!

Dear Mattie Blog Readers,

It means a great deal to us that you take the time to write to us and to share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections on Mattie's battle and death. Your messages are very meaningful to us and help support us through very challenging times. To you we are forever grateful. As my readers know, I promised to write the blog for a year after Mattie's death, which would mean that I could technically stop writing on September 9, 2010. However, at the moment, I feel like our journey with grief still needs to be processed and fortunately I have a willing support network still committed to reading. Therefore, the blog continues on. If I should find the need to stop writing, I assure you I will give you advanced notice. In the mean time, thank you for reading, thank you for having the courage to share this journey with us, and most importantly thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive.

As Mattie would say, Ooga Booga (meaning, I LOVE YOU)! Vicki and Peter

Tonight's picture was taken in August of 2007. We bicycle rode several times with Mattie from our hotel to the famous Hotel del Coronado, in San Diego. Though Mattie did not understand the significance of the hotel, he enjoyed the adventure. Reflecting back on this moment in time, it was a simple and naive summer, as the following summer, Mattie was undergoing his first chemo treatment. It puts so much into context.

Quote of the day: Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.William James

This was my second full day here in Los Angeles, and my focus on this trip is to help pack up my parent's home and move them into their next home. Selling a home is very stressful and of course there is always an emotional component to moving. The buyer of their home had their last walk through today, which in a way makes the process feel more finalized. But of course, with a last walk through, the house has to be organized and staged to welcome a buyer. So there is a bit of anxiety that was ever present today. This is now behind my parents and I can begin wrapping up breakables. Which I started to do this evening. I am taking photos of everything I am wrapping, so I can see how things were set up here and then can replicate this in the next house.

I feel like the blog for the next couple of weeks will be a how to in moving. Thankfully, my skills for planning and organizing the Foundation Walk enable me to manage the vast number of tasks needed in such a move. So thank you for walking through this journey with me.

Though this is the fourth house my parents have owned, Mattie did visit my parents in this house a few times. In fact, there are still Mattie items and toys here. I came across them yesterday and on this trip I am staying in the room we designated "Mattie's room." I will never forget the first time Mattie stayed in this house, he insisted that I come sleep in his room with him. This happened years ago, but I remember it as if it were yesterday.
