A Remembrance Video of Mattie

Thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive!

Dear Mattie Blog Readers,

It means a great deal to me that you take the time to write and to share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections on Mattie's battle and death. Your messages are very meaningful and help support me through very challenging times. I am forever grateful. As my readers know, I promised to write the blog for a year after Mattie's death, which would mean that I could technically have stopped writing on September 9, 2010. However, like my journey with grief there is so much that still needs to be processed and fortunately I have a willing support network still committed to reading. Therefore, the blog continues on. If I should find the need to stop writing, I assure you I will give you advanced notice. In the mean time, thank you for reading, thank you for having the courage to share this journey with me, and most importantly thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive.

As Mattie would say, Ooga Booga (meaning, I LOVE YOU)! Vicki

This shot was taken 11 years ago in July of 2007, when the three of us took one of our hundreds of walks on Roosevelt Island, in the middle of Washington, DC. Mattie loved Roosevelt Island and would always come away with a prize from his walks on island, and he especially loved walking the boardwalk through the marsh and swamp areas of the island.

Hi, Peter again.... so I took Sunny on a walk on Roosevelt Island today, and it being Saturday, I had more flexibility in my schedule to take him for a nice walk. Sunny has been so very patient with me during the weekdays. He is now down to one large walk per day, when he is used to two plus large walks a day with Vicki. It has been quite an adjustment for the young lad...

So I include below some shots from today and our walk. The Island never disappoints, and having personally walked the Island every month of the year, and almost at every time of the day over the course of a few decades, I have to admit it is one of my favorite places. If ever in DC, you should really go and walk the island. You will not be disappointed!
