Thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive!

Dear Mattie Blog Readers,

It means a great deal to us that you take the time to write to us and to share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections on Mattie's battle and death. Your messages are very meaningful to us and help support us through very challenging times. To you we are forever grateful. As my readers know, I promised to write the blog for a year after Mattie's death, which would mean that I could technically stop writing on September 9, 2010. However, at the moment, I feel like our journey with grief still needs to be processed and fortunately I have a willing support network still committed to reading. Therefore, the blog continues on. If I should find the need to stop writing, I assure you I will give you advanced notice. In the mean time, thank you for reading, thank you for having the courage to share this journey with us, and most importantly thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive.

As Mattie would say, Ooga Booga (meaning, I LOVE YOU)! Vicki and Peter

Tuesday, October 18, 2016 -- Mattie died 370 weeks ago today.

Tonight's picture was taken in November of 2008. Of course it doesn't look like a photo, and it isn't! Our facebook friend Tim Beck transformed the photo into a painting. The actual photo is below. There are aspects of Mattie in this digital painting, and yet specific features that are Mattie to me are missing. I can't quite explain this. Nonetheless, I loved seeing this creation. Any time I see a Tim creation of Mattie on line, it brings a smile to my face. Because he is helping to keep Mattie alive for us and our community.

The actual photo! It is hard to do Mattie's actual face justice. He was a beautiful boy.

Quote of the day: Why does watching a dog be a dog fill one with happiness? Jonathan Safran Foer

I took Sunny to Alexandria today to walk with friends. He had a great time. He met my friend Tina's dog and the boys really enjoyed walking together. Sunny has gotten to know my friend Ann, and moves about freely in her home.

In fact, Sunny loves visiting Alexandria because there are a ton of squirrels there. His passion!
Ann captured us walking our boys. This was Sunny's first meeting with Max. They did very well together and it was such a glorious weather day, there was no better way to spend the day than outside, in fresh air, and walking a dog.
Ann and Tina live in a beautiful neighborhood, right near Mattie's school. However, the neighborhood has slight hills. Prior to getting Sunny, I would get winded walking the hills. I literally couldn't talk and walk at the same time. However, since getting Sunny, and walking 5-7 miles a day, my stamina has totally changed. I haven't noticed it until today.

I would say that Sunny makes me happier and forces me to take better care of myself. Which means working less and moving more.

The most important part of yesterday's blog was the last paragraph - SUNNY is the gift that will keep on giving! I am so happy for you!!
