Thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive!

Dear Mattie Blog Readers,

It means a great deal to us that you take the time to write to us and to share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections on Mattie's battle and death. Your messages are very meaningful to us and help support us through very challenging times. To you we are forever grateful. As my readers know, I promised to write the blog for a year after Mattie's death, which would mean that I could technically stop writing on September 9, 2010. However, at the moment, I feel like our journey with grief still needs to be processed and fortunately I have a willing support network still committed to reading. Therefore, the blog continues on. If I should find the need to stop writing, I assure you I will give you advanced notice. In the mean time, thank you for reading, thank you for having the courage to share this journey with us, and most importantly thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive.

As Mattie would say, Ooga Booga (meaning, I LOVE YOU)! Vicki and Peter

This shot was taken in 2003 when Mattie was less than a year old, but already exploring his world. The cat was named Patches, and she was a love of a cat. She found us as a stray in 1996 and was forever grateful to have become part of our family. Mattie was always very good and respectful of her, and she showed him the same respect and caring. They were quite the duo. Patches was always around, monitoring and taking in the world on her terms like a typical cat. It truly is something special to have a cat as part of your life...

Happy Birthday Ms. Indie! Indie turned 3 today! It was two years ago when Vicki and I first went to see a tortoise shell cat being fostered by CityCats here in DC. We were on the hunt for a rescue cat, and Indie (called Hazel and prior to that Jerri) made the short list. Because it was the day before July 4th, we decided to rename the cat Indie, which is a nod in honor of Independence Day.

Indie is a lovable, affectionate, low maintenance cat. Yes, I said low maintenance. She does not cause trouble, she gets along wonderfully with Sunny, has caught a few mice that dared to venture into our home, and she is very social and easy going in disposition. She is actually more like a dog than a cat in many ways.

I include below a series of shots of Indie as she has made our home that much more livable and lovable now that she is a member of the family. So happy birthday Miss Indie! We love you!
