A Remembrance Video of Mattie

Thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive!

Dear Mattie Blog Readers,

It means a great deal to me that you take the time to write and to share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections on Mattie's battle and death. Your messages are very meaningful and help support me through very challenging times. I am forever grateful. As my readers know, I promised to write the blog for a year after Mattie's death, which would mean that I could technically have stopped writing on September 9, 2010. However, like my journey with grief there is so much that still needs to be processed and fortunately I have a willing support network still committed to reading. Therefore, the blog continues on. If I should find the need to stop writing, I assure you I will give you advanced notice. In the mean time, thank you for reading, thank you for having the courage to share this journey with me, and most importantly thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive.

As Mattie would say, Ooga Booga (meaning, I LOVE YOU)! Vicki

Tonight's picture was taken at the Mattie March on May 10, 2009. Next to Mattie are Ariel and Tess. Both were undergraduate students of mine. Ironically both went into working in the healthcare field, as Ariel is a nurse and Tess is a physical therapist. There was a craft table at the Mattie March, and this was right up Mattie's alley!

Quote of the day: Today's coronavirus update from Johns Hopkins

  • number of people diagnosed with the virus: 1,486,515
  • number of people who died from the virus: 89,562

We had 414 registered participants from 50 states and 9 countries (Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Cyprus, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, UK, USA). In fact, our day started off with this photo....

It was step counts from the Funahashi family is Japan. Thanks to our friend Junko. She got both of her brothers to participate. Since Japan is 13 hours ahead of us, they kicked off our walk!

Out of the 414 walkers, 104 actually tracked their steps. Each of these walkers then emailed me a photo of their step counter documenting the steps taken from midnight to noon. I am still digging out of emails. In fact, Peter and I did not account for HOW POPULAR today's event was going to be. We really need a team of people manning emails and social media. Because we received hundreds of messages and photos. Needless to say, I will be digging out all week.

But here's the bottom line. All of our walkers who tracked their steps, in total walked 1.5 million steps for Mattie Miracle today! Incredible no???

Here are our top walkers, who will be awarded prizes:

  1. Craig Lytle (1st place adult)--- 71,059 steps, won a Port City Brewery tour, tasting, and Growler Gift Pack
