Thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive!

Dear Mattie Blog Readers,

It means a great deal to us that you take the time to write to us and to share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections on Mattie's battle and death. Your messages are very meaningful to us and help support us through very challenging times. To you we are forever grateful. As my readers know, I promised to write the blog for a year after Mattie's death, which would mean that I could technically stop writing on September 9, 2010. However, at the moment, I feel like our journey with grief still needs to be processed and fortunately I have a willing support network still committed to reading. Therefore, the blog continues on. If I should find the need to stop writing, I assure you I will give you advanced notice. In the mean time, thank you for reading, thank you for having the courage to share this journey with us, and most importantly thank you for keeping Mattie's memory alive.

As Mattie would say, Ooga Booga (meaning, I LOVE YOU)! Vicki and Peter

Tonight's picture was taken in April of 2008. Though we celebrated Mattie's 6th birthday at a bowling alley with his kindergarten class, we also got an ice cream cake for the three of us at home. Mattie got a piece of cake, he day of his birthday week. The funny part is I always had to remove all the chocolate from the cake!

Quote of the day: Today's coronavirus update from Johns Hopkins.

  • Number of people diagnosed with the virus: 31,187,983
  • Number of people who died from the virus: 562,035

My dad had a slower day today, because we are taking him out with friends at 3pm. Nonetheless, my dad appears exhausted and his typical twenty minute walk is becoming more difficult. I have seen a decline in him while I have been here for two weeks.

To help my mom out, I have been doing some cooking, so they have access to good food when I am gone. For days they don't feel like going out. Today, I made a turkey meatloaf with carrots, spinach, onions, and mushrooms. I precook everything, then cut it up and portion it appropriately before wrapping it and putting into the freezer.

A close up of my vegetable meatloaf.
Peter sent me some pictures today! Like a trip down memory lane. This photo was taken in Malibu, at the famous restaurant, Gladstones! Ironically I was just talking to my parents about this restaurant yesterday, and then Peter just happened to send me this photo today!
This photo was taken in June of 1991, at our college graduation dinner. Next to me is my lifetime friend, Karen, and next to Karen is my dad.

We had a choir concert during graduation weekend. My mom is pictured with us!
Peter was cooking chicken stew today! Look at his cooking buddy! Sunny isn't stupid, he positioned himself appropriately so he wasn't forgotten!

I love the pictures! And Sunny! My Sunny always lays at my feet when I'm cooking because she knows I drop things! She's my vacuum cleaner.
